FENCE GUIDELINES & SCREEN POLICY
All fences must conform to PNRA architectural guidelines. There are no restrictions to residents installing privacy screening, as defined, on their properties.
Definitions:
For the purposes of this policy, the PNRA adopts the definition of fences and screens provided by the City of Edmonton in Bylaw 20001.
• Fence means a structure that is constructed at ground level and used to prevent or restrict passage, mark a boundary, or provide visual screening, noise reduction, or Landscaping.
• Privacy Screen means a structure located on a Platform Structure or Rooftop Terrace that provides a visual barrier by obscuring sight lines from Abutting Sites, Streets or Alleys. Typical examples include lattices, trellises, parapet walls, wooden boards, translucent glass, or any combination of these or similar features.
Further, for the purposed of this policy, the PNRA has adopted the following definitions.
• Public Amenity means are capital improvements either built or paid for by the developer. They must be close enough to the development for local residents to enjoy. This includes public parks and walkways.
• Between Buildings means the entire property line between two directly adjacent homes but not directly adjacent to a public amenity.
• Structure means something with a physical presence that occupies space and has some degree of construction, installation, or permanence.
• Wood Screen Fencing means a fence that conforms to the PNRA architectural guidelines.
.Ornamental Attachments: Ornamental attachments will be allowed on chain link fences subject to they do not materially change the appearance of the fence. If in doubt, contact the PNRA.
Architectural Guidelines
PNRA Architectural Guidelines state that lots backing onto a public amenity where the rear property fence is wrought iron or chain link require fencing to be coated chain link (without inserts or wrought iron fencing). Wood screen fencing will be permitted, between buildings only on these lots.
Restrictive Covenants (Easements and Fence Right-of-way)
Additionally, most of the chain-link and wrought iron fences in the Neighborhood are owned by the PNRA and governed by a restrictive covenant lodged against titles. In the Restrictive Covenant (Easement), it is agreed to by the property owner that they:
Not to erect, construct, place or maintain or permit to be erected, constructed, placed or maintained on the Right-of-Way (as hereinafter described) on which the fencing is constructed, any structure of any nature or kind, whether a fence or other barrier, whether permanent of temporary, whether affixed to the Lands or not, nor shall the Grantor remove, reduce or otherwise destroy the elevation of the fencing and related appurtenances.
And,
Not to remove, replace or change in any way including the colour and appearance, the fence which has been erected in the Right-of-Way on the Servient Lands.
This further reinforces both the Architectural Guidelines and City Bylaw in cases where fences have been installed within the rights-of-ways. Rights-of-Ways vary from 0.5 to 1.0 meters in Parkland.

Fencing on all other lots should be consistent in design and colour with the fencing style established for the subdivision.
Chain link fences are to be painted black (glossy is preferential)
Wooden fences require Cape Cod Grey stain / paint, as per the dye-lot shown descriptions below. We can confirm these dye-lots are available at Home Depot, Lowes/Rona, Cloverdale with the formulas shown below, but you are welcome to purchase at the store of your choosing.
